India in Japan (Embassy of India, Tokyo) Kerala CM Visit 2019, by Indian Embassy Japan
A 12 member delegation led by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Shri Pinarayi Vijayan visited Tokyo from November 27-30, 2019 during which they attended an Indian Malayali Community Event on the evening of November 27 at the Auditorium of Indian Embassy. On November 28, 2019 an Invest Kerala Seminar was organized by Indian Embassy, Tokyo in association with JETRO to showcase the potential sectors of the government of Kerala seeking Japanese investment. Ambassador of India to Japan H.E. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Verma delivered the opening remarks at the Investment Seminar which was attended by about 150 participants mostly representatives of Japanese companies. In his key note speech, Kerala Chief Minister highlighted the State’s achievement in the human development index including quality of life, environmental standards, improved health care system and ease of doing business in the State which already housed 140 Japanese companies namely Maruti Suzuki, Yamaha Motors, Bridgestone, Mitsubishi Electric, Nippon Paint, Yokohama Tyres, Fuji Tech and Terumo Penpol etc. While addressing the seminar, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of Industries of Kerala government invited Japanese companies to invest in focus sectors especially in food processing, marine products, shipbuilding, manufacturing solid waste management, disaster management, Ayurveda and tourism.
During their 4 days visit to Tokyo, the delegation led by Chief Minister also held meetings with Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Mr Hideki Makihara, Minister of State for Regional Revitalization Mr. Seigo Kitamura and Senior Vice President of JICA Mr. Junichi Yamada. From Embassy of India, Minister (Eco) Ms. Mona Khandhar and First Secretary (Eco) Mr. Bhagirathi Behera attended the meetings. Apart from the meeting with Japanese dignitaries, the delegation also visited Industrial sites such as Toshiba LOT Battery plant in Kashiwazaki, Toyota factory in Nagoya, Terumo Penpol Headquarters in Kanagawa, Nissan Factory in Yokohama, Solid waste management plant in Nerima-ku, as well as Toyosu Fish market in Tokyo. Earlier during the first leg of their visit to Japan on November 25, the delegation organized an Investment roadshow in Osaka and visited Kyoto, Hiroshima and Shimane prefecture where they held meetings with the five governors of the San’in region. On conclusion of their Japan visit, the delegation left for Seoul, on November 30, 2019.
